Wild Finch Farm

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “When I go into the garden with a spade, and dig a bed, I feel such an exhilaration and health that I discover that I have been defrauding myself all this time in letting others do for me what I should have done with my own hands.”

Wild Finch Farm is located on five beautiful acres of woodland, prairie, pasture and gardens bordering Solon and West Branch, approximately ten miles from Iowa City, Iowa.  Enjoy the drive on hard surface roads through the bucolic Iowa countryside.  Set on a hilltop in northeast Johnson County, just 9 miles from I-80/Hwy 1, our homestead offers expansive, awe-inspiring views. Our historic farm is also home to two-hundred year old towering Burr oaks.

The land has been certified organic  by previous owners. We will continue sustainable, organic farming the same way our grandparents farmed decades ago. Haven’t others similarly worked the land for thousands of years?

Wild Finch Farm is also headquarters of the Iowa Young Birders and home to  Writers Retreats and Workshops.

It’s little wonder we traded in our city life to return to Iowa’s bucolic countryside.  See for yourself! in our photo gallery.
